Despite sex ed classes in public schools and a wealth of information on the Internet about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), increasing numbers of Americans still manage to get infected.
So much for human rationality, which is the necessary foundation for a republic in which citizens supposedly employ their capacity for reason to vote for their political representatives in government.
At a National STD Prevention Conference in Washington, DC, August 27-30, 2018, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) presented preliminary data showing that after decades of declining STDs, the U.S. is “sliding backwards”. There has been an alarming increase in STDs in the 5-year period from 2013 to 2017:
- STDs increased continuously for four consecutive years.
- Cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis “hit an all time high” in 2017, increasing 31% from 1.75 million in 2013 to nearly 2.3 million in 2017:
- Syphilis cases nearly doubled, from 17,375 in 2013 to 30,644 in 2017:
- Men who have sex with men (MSM) account for most of the syphilis — of 10,451 cases in 2013 to 17,736 in 2017. That means that those men infected with syphilis are also at risk of HIV-AIDS.
- Gonorrhea cases increased by 67%, from 33,004 in 2013 to 555,607 in 2017:
- Among women, gonorrhea cases increased from 163,208 in 2013 to 232,587 in 2017.
- Among men, gonorrhea cases exploded from 169,130 in 2013 to 322,169 in 2017.
- Chlamydia cases, the most common STD, increased from 1,401,906 in 2013 to 1,708,569 in 2017:
- Young women (aged 15 to 24) accounted for more than half of the chlamydia cases, increasing from 715,983 in 2013 to 771,340 in 2017.
- Syphilis cases nearly doubled, from 17,375 in 2013 to 30,644 in 2017:
To make the sharp increases in STDs worse, antibiotic resistance to gonorrhea is continuing:
- Lab tests of gonorrhea samples show signs of emerging antibiotic resistance.
- The CDC recommends a two-drug combination as our last highly-effective antibiotic against gonorrhea.
- But the CDC expects gonorrhea to eventually wear down this last highly-effective antibiotic.
David Harvey, executive director of the National Coalition of the STDs Directors, said in a press briefing:
The United States continues to have the highest STD rates in the industrialized world. We are in the midst of an absolute STD public health crisis in this country. It’s a crisis that has been in the making for years…that costs the United States more than $16 billion in preventable health care costs a year.
Harvey said “we are seeing disproportionate rates of STD’s in certain areas of the country” — southern and lower-income states — and among “young people of color” and “young gay men of color“. He blames the increase in STDs on “years of cutbacks in federal funding”.
K. Walker of Clash Daily asks, “To what do they attribute this continuous rise in STDs?”
The answers:
- Some experts say that advances in medical diagnosis are catching STDs early.
- Some pin the blame a huge rise in popularity of dating apps like Grindr, which allows people to connect more easily with potential sexual partners, and engage in high-risk behavior like sex without using a condom. According to The Blaze, UCLA STD researcher Jeffrey Kalusner said many of popular dating apps are quiet on STDs and “do as little as possible” because their sites could be stigmatized for being associated with STDs.
- Other experts say that there is an increase in sex without condom use, despite all the sex ed in our public schools. Even worse, some Americans are so stupid they’re re-using condoms, which led to this CDC tweet warning people not to reuse condoms:

Clash Daily‘s K. Walker concludes:
I say we lay the blame where it deserves to be: at the feet of the sexual ‘progressives.’
These are the people that have divorced sex from emotion and consequences, and encouraged a hook-up culture that views sex simply as pleasure. Feminists have pushed the notion that women should engage in sex the same way that a man does (or is wired to), even though biologically, men and women view sex differently.
These same sexual progressives have told us time and again that all we needed was ‘better’ sex ed programs in schools in order to explain the need and types of ‘protection’ because kids will do it anyway. It seems that the more thorough the sex ed is, the higher the rates of STDs.
God forbid you mention abstinence education, which has a 100% effectiveness rate against STDs.
Great work, again, progressives.
