In 2007, 50% of internet traffic came from thousands of websites, today, over 50% of internet traffic is divided into just 35 consolidated internet giants

With the recent interest in the growing powers of Google and Facebook, I started thinking back at the early days of the internet. I remember how often I would go on at least a dozen different websites and forums, each with their unique style and userbase. Anyone could run a website. Today I am concerned about the consolidation of power by megacorporations that seek to track us through cookies and hidden javascript banners, Google and Facebook know what you do even if you’re not on their websites (just install NoScript and look at how many websites are running Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Twitter scripts). We must stop the monopolization of the internet and return it to its roots.
