This is more than simply being out of touch by pretending to care about small businesses while simultaneously crushing them through unnecessary lockdowns and authoritarian measures. This is a form of psychological gaslighting, and it’s being done everyday by mainstream media and politicians.
Gaslighting is a tactic in which a person makes the victim question their reality in order to gain more power and control over them. Confusion weakens people. It is a common technique of abusers, dictators, narcissists, and cult leaders. It is done slowly, so the victim doesn’t realize how much they’ve been brainwashed. Their actions do not match their words, intentionally.
