I’m incredibly curious as to how this happens. Apparently the ships were meeting out in ocean and then the ship was being filled. Since the ship is owned by JP Morgan these must have been a rare fluke that the ship was given a more thorough check. 1.3 billion, you know some executives are incredibly upset their weekend party just got a little light.
We know for a fact that banks launder money for drug cartels/syndicates so It’s not beyond me to think that they also make it so they have money to launder in the first place by facilitating it’s import.
Reminds me of Mitch McConnell having his ship seized for cocaine trafficking as well.

A cargo ship that was seized last month with nearly 20 tons of cocaine on board — with an estimated street value of $1.3 billion — belongs to JP Morgan Chase, a source familiar with the situation confirmed to CBS News. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said this was the largest vessel ever seized in the agency’s 230-year history.
The ship, the MSC Gayane, is owned by JP Morgan Asset Management clients through a transportation fund managed by the bank, a source said. JP Morgan leased the ship to Mediterranean Shipping Co., a Switzerland-based shipping company, which is solely responsible for the vessel’s crews and operations.
