Police find person shot dead on University of Utah campus after reported kidnapping
University of Utah police investigated a report of shots fired and a possible kidnapping on the University of Utah campus on Monday, and soon located the victim.
They found the shot person in a car near the scene.
The person was found near the south side of the South Medical Tower, a residential structure on campus at 95 South 2030 East.
Police on scene confirmed the person who suffered the gunshot wound was dead.
The university released information about a suspect wanted in the shooting: Melvin Rowland, 37, who is a registered sex offender.
