Why Apple’s iMessage Doesn’t Fall Under the New IT Rules Unlike WhatsApp, Telegram or Signal

Indian govt has reportedly withdrawn a letter written to Apple regarding compliance with the country’s new IT rules. The IT ministry has reportedly refused to consider Apple’s iMessage service as a ‘significant social media intermediary’. Experts say that If iMessage is exempted, rules related to the ‘identification of the first originator of the message’ would not apply to Apple’s messaging service unlike WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal.
