Matt Gaetz is one of the few Republicans in Washington who centers his fundraising around small dollar donations while largely eschewing PACs.
The reduction in billionaire support for the GOP as a whole in recent years is what is enabling figures like Gaetz to thwart Wall Street appointees like Kevin McCarthy.
Not sure how wealthy donors will react to this.
They could start flooding the institutional GOP with the money it needs to resist attacks from people like Gaetz, but there is no guarantee dumbass cowards like McCarthy won’t flee under pressure for a sinecure and retire like Paul Ryan.
Note that there isn’t really any sign that Gaetz is any more sincere than McCarthy about defending whites or the working class.
What differentiates the two is that Gaetz wants political power — to win elections — while McCarthy doesn’t care what voters think and instead prefers to maximize the good will and backing of Jewish money.
