(Natural News) It’s obvious to me, a journalist with 30 years’ experience at every level of news reporting, that the so-called “mainstream media” has willingly chucked what remained of its reputation into the trash can in an all-out effort to destroy a duly-elected president, Donald J. Trump.
Since before he took office, the media — shellshocked over Hillary Clinton’s loss because they all believed their bogus polling— turned vengeful. Stricken with Trump Derangement Syndrome, the American Pravda media have published fake news story after fake news story, lies upon lies, half-truths, and innuendo because they have decided that Trump has no business being in the Oval Office.
And they did again this week after the president announced he would nominate current CIA Deputy Director Gina Haspel to become the first women to head the most powerful intelligence service in the world.
Normally, the #MeToo movement supporting, uber-progressive, feminist-leaning, Democrat-aligned press would be elated that a president would even consider a woman for the top job at CIA, let alone actually nominate and appoint one.
But not this time. No, because Trump did it, then it’s a lousy choice, a bad pick, a move that will potentially ruin the agency and gravely endanger the country.
And so, as such, it then became the Pravda media’s ‘responsibility’ to destroy her, for the good of the country and to save us all from The Donald.
In recent days, after Trump announced he would nominate current CIA Deputy Director Gina Haspel to replace the outgoing director, Mike Pompeo (who is replacing Rex Tillerson at the State Department), the legacy media began to publish reports reflective of an investigation by independent news site ProPublica accusing her of being a party to torture and then laughing about it.
As noted by Common Dreams:
In February 2017, ProPublica reported on Haspel’s career at the CIA during the George W. Bush administration, when she ran a clandestine prison in Thailand, overseeing the waterboarding of detainees and pushed senior officers to destroy evidence of the torture.
The investigative news outlet incorrectly reported that she oversaw the black site when al Qaeda suspect Abu Zubaydah was waterboarded there 83 times, and that she privately mocked the prisoner.
Fortunately, ProPublica, which is decidedly Left-leaning to be sure, is at least honest enough to admit that on this particular story, they got their facts wrong.
In a correction story on Friday, Stephen Engelberg, editor-in-chief, noted:
The story said that Haspel, a career CIA officer who President Trump has nominated to be the next director of central intelligence, oversaw the clandestine base where Zubaydah was subjected to waterboarding and other coercive interrogation methods that are widely seen as torture. The story also said she mocked the prisoner’s suffering in a private conversation. Neither of these assertions is correct and we retract them. It is now clear that Haspel did not take charge of the base until after the interrogation of Zubaydah ended.
Engelberg then went on to explain how reporters managed such an epic screw-up — again, all in the name of journalistic integrity. But none of that mattered to the Pravda media, which continued to lambast Haspel and accuse of such things as covering up torture, if not actually taking part in it and getting a good laugh out of it.
It’s difficult to believe the follow-on reporting claiming that Haspel is still evil incarnate because the dupes fell so hard for the initial reporting, which was flat-out wrong. And they wonder why fewer and fewer Americans trust any of them.
The point is, we’ve seen this cycle before: The Pravda media throws some excrement at a Trump administration official to see how much of it sticks, but when it comes time to wash the excrement off, they’re nowhere to be found.
