Wisconsin governor orders stop to in-person voting on eve of election – Challenged – You might get to vote anyway, Watch for Updates

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers issued a last-minute order halting in-person voting on Tuesday amid coronavirus concerns, calling for suspending the statewide and local elections until June 9.

Evers expects a court challenge from state Republicans, who this weekend rebuffed a late request that the GOP-controlled legislature take action to postpone the election. Evers said if Republicans don’t challenge the order, it will go into effect immediately.

Gov. Tony Evers has issued an executive order delaying Wisconsin’s primary election until June 9.

The order was issued Monday afternoon after the Republican-controlled Legislature ignored Evers’ request to extend absentee voting.

The executive order suspends all in-person voting on Tuesday.

Evers also ordered the Legislature to meet in special session Tuesday to consider the new date.

If the lawmakers do not pass legislation to change the date, in-person voting will take place June 9.

A legal battle challenging Evers’ authority to change the date of the election is expected to be filed in the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

“The clerks of this state should stand ready to proceed with the election. The governor’s executive order is clearly an unconstitutional overreach,” Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) said in a joint statement. “This is another last minute flip-flop from the governor on the April 7th election. The governor himself has repeatedly acknowledged he can’t move the election. Just last week a federal judge said he did not have the power to cancel the election and Governor Evers doesn’t either. Governor Evers can’t unilaterally run the state.”

The Wisconsin election is being viewed as a national test case in a broader fight over voter access in the age of coronavirus with major implications for the presidential primary contests ahead — and possibly, the November general election.

So, the mayors of Milwaukee and Madison, DEMOCRATS, pretty much demanded Evers do this, so he did, even though it’s overstepping his powers as governor.

This showcases the vast divide between dems and repubs. The dem cities didn’t pay attention to the social distancing and are now being deluged by coronavirus. Of course they want special accomodations for their blunders.

Democrats – Irresponsible

Republicans – Responsible

Dems in WI are also pushing mail in ballots for all elections – which means they can cheat cheat cheat.

1,167 in Milwaukee County, not counting Milwaukee suburbs
269 in Madison (Dane County)

That’s how many people have coronavirus in WI and Evers is cancelling elections over it.

State Republican leaders say they are challenging the governor’s order in the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

“The clerks of this state should stand ready to proceed with the election,” reads a statement from Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald. “The governor’s executive order is clearly an unconstitutional overreach.”

The statement continues, “This is another last minute flip-flop from the governor on the April 7th election. The governor himself has repeatedly acknowledged he can’t move the election. Just last week a federal judge said he did not have the power to cancel the election and Governor Evers doesn’t either. Governor Evers can’t unilaterally run the state.”
