Republicans are now opposing Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court for giving a weaker-than-recommended sentence to a rapist
Leo Weekes was convicted of raping his 13-year-old niece and later for lying on his sex offender registration
Jackson gave Weekes 12 months in prison for lying on his registration rather than the 24 months recommended by federal prosecutors
In the time he was set free early, Weekes carried out another alleged sexual assault of his sister-in-law
Details of Jackson’s role in the sentencing came out Monday morning, as the Judiciary Committee met to vote on her nomination
The panel voted 11-11 on her confirmation, allowing the Democratic Senate leader to bring her confirmation to the floor for a full vote
