Of the 10 US metro areas which saw the highest rent increases in September, half are also among the most dangerous cities in the country
Rents in American cities workers fled from during the pandemic rose at significantly higher rates last month than the sunbelt cities workers moved to
Chicago, Boston, and New York City topped rent increases across the country, coming in at 23.9 percent, 19.9 percent, and 18.2 percent
Conversely, major sunbelt cities like Orlando, San Diego, and Dallas showed lower increases in the eight percent range
Though still high, the increases are down for the second month in a row since they peaked last July
Economists from Realtor.com said the numbers may affirm forecasts that the rental market is cooling after the severe spikes which followed the pandemic
