Trump backs Rubio for Cuba, allows Mexico to supply oil, and Diaz-Canel vows to fight “to the last drop of blood.”

President Donald Trump reposted a social media message on Sunday suggesting that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, born to Cuban immigrant parents, would become the next leader of Cuba.

Trump republished on his Truth Social platform a message from X user Cliff Smith on January 8 that read: “Marco Rubio will be president of Cuba,” accompanied by a crying laughing emoji.

“Sounds good to me!” Trump commented in his repost.

Despite President Trump’s social media pronouncement Sunday that “there will be no more oil or money going to Cuba — zero,” the current U.S. policy is to allow Mexico to continue to provide oil to the island, according to Energy Secretary Chris Wright and another U.S. official.

Cuba desperately needs the oil, since Venezuela is no longer supplying it, after Nicolás Maduro’s ouster just over a week ago.

Mr. Trump spoke with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Monday morning. The White House and Mexican government have not yet said whether Mexico’s oil supply to Cuba was discussed.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday that he will meet with officials from Denmark next week about Greenland.

Rubio’s comments on Capitol Hill came as the Trump administration has amped up rhetoric about taking over Greenland, which is a self-governing territory of Denmark.

He was asked why the administration had not accepted Denmark’s request for a discussion about the island.
