The label used to say “Made From Natural Gas” then it said “Made With Natural Gas” and now Pennzoil Platinum’s label doesn’t say anything about Natural Gas. Did Pennzoil change more than just the label?
We can identify any changes just by running 3 lab tests. ICP, FTIR and PDSC. The ICP results will tell us if the additive package in these oil stayed the same or if it changed as well. The FTIR results provide the chemical finger print of the oil, so we can see any changes in the base oil blend.
If the formula has changed, the PDSC results will show if those changes had a positive or negative impact on the Oxidation stability of the oil. A better PDSC result indicates longer potential oil life and greater resistance to thermal breakdown, which is important for today’s turbocharged, direct injection engines. A lower PDSC result indicates less resistance to thermal breakdown. In this video we reveal what changed, why those changes happened and the consequences of those changes.
