An 8-ton Freightliner was weaving across I-55 as 911 calls poured in from concerned drivers. When Missouri State Highway Patrol caught up, stopping this massive truck would prove to be anything but simple.
What followed was a dangerous pursuit through Jefferson and Ste. Genevieve counties, with the Freightliner continuing down the highway even after spike strips damaged its tires. As pieces of the truck began coming apart, the situation only became more unpredictable.
But some of the most interesting details weren’t discovered until after the chase was over. Investigators uncovered outstanding warrants, an unusual attempt to use someone else’s identity, and evidence that would eventually shed more light on the driver’s condition behind the wheel.
