Target in the Boycott Crosshairs Again: Teachers union launches back-to-school Target boycott over ICE response

As teachers and families head back to school, one of the largest teachers’ unions has launched a boycott of Target.

The American Federation of Teachers announced the “Shop Smart, Support Working Families” campaign last Wednesday.

“We said, ‘Stand with the community and if you don’t stand with the community, we’re shopping somewhere else,'” said Randi Weingarten, AFT president.

The union is urging teachers and families to get their school supplies from retailers other than Target.

According to the AFT, their “1.875 million members spend an average of $895 of their own money on school supplies each year and hold billions in Target stock via their pension accounts.”
