Who really picks America’s CEOs?

Let me tell you something. I know an Indian dude who runs in VC circles. He said this to me when I was having dinner.

Hedge funds control most of the companies. They have a greater say in who the next CEO is.

Almost all hedge funds want a CEO who:

They can control
Aggressively increases revenue in a short period of time

White men are nationalistic, and that’s a problem for hedge fund managers.

To aggressively increase revenue, you need a CEO who will:

Offshore
Replace expensive employees with cheaper ones
Squeeze more hours for the same pay

Indians fit the profile quite well compared to White men.

You don’t see them picking Chinese people, even though the Chinese are far more intelligent than Indians.

Indian CEOs are selected for convenience, not for competence.

The Indian diaspora mistook it for competence.
