Nvidia is getting involved further and further down the chain.

It invests in the companies.
Those companies raise money.
They buy Nvidia GPUs.
They rent the GPUs to AI companies.
Those AI companies need more financing to pay for the compute.

Nvidia is sitting in the middle of an increasingly complicated machine.

Six of the biggest financial firms joined Nvidia in a plan to mobilize more than $500 billion for AI infrastructure. The important part isn’t that Nvidia is personally putting up $500 billion. It’s that Nvidia is helping create a financing pipeline for the infrastructure that consumes its products.

Nvidia agreed to provide up to $105 billion of guarantee support for OpenAI’s Ohio data center lease. Nvidia is also investing $1.5 billion into SB Energy. Reuters reported that the structure involves both equity and debt.

This is one of the more important pieces of the puzzle.

Nvidia’s new financing program offered credit support to AI cloud companies in exchange for a share of revenue generated from Nvidia hardware. Nvidia also offered to buy unsold computing capacity in some arrangements.

Then Nvidia paused some of the deals.

That doesn’t prove anything improper happened. But it shows that Nvidia’s financial involvement with its customers had become significant enough to attract investor and antitrust concerns.
