Once people start deciding a murder victim’s worth based on her job, politics or class, you get a very ugly rule: compassion becomes something you earn. The next step is treating violence against the “right” people as justified.

And the newer reporting gives that argument more context. Piacenti had only been a VP at BofA for about 18 months, worked in a specialized legal/compliance role, mentored junior employees, and her boss described her as a “superstar.”
