Judge denies motion for acquittal in Lindsay Clancy trial

A judge has denied a motion from Lindsay Clancy’s defense team for a required finding of not guilty, citing that there was sufficient evidence in the case.

Judge William Sullivan, who presided over Clancy’s high profile murder trial, made the decision in a Thursday, Oct. 1 ruling, according to court records.

Clancy was back in court Sept. 29 for the first time since her murder trial ended in a mistrial Sept. 4. Her attorney, Kevin Reddington, argued there was “no evidence that she admitted that she did this” and that the prosecution failed to prove criminal responsibility beyond a reasonable doubt.

Clancy, 36, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder related to the strangling deaths of her children Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, on Jan. 24, 2023. Prosecutors argue her actions were premeditated, while Reddington argued during the trial that she was overmedicated and lacked criminal responsibility due to mental illness, including postpartum depression and psychosis.
