The number of unemployed 20–24-year-olds with no previous work experience reached 249,000 in September. It has risen for six straight months and was the highest September reading since 2014.

That’s a much cleaner early-career warning than the overall unemployment rate because these workers need new openings to get into the labor market in the first place.
