Wall Street profits are on track to reach all-time highs as they surpassed expectations during the first half of the year, the New York State Comptroller’s office revealed.
In a new report released by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Wall Street’s profits of the first half of the year surpassed $45.3 billion, as jobs in the industry also reached a record high.
The report is based on traditional measures of the securities industry’s performance, examining the pretax profits of the broker-dealer operations of New York Stock Exchange member firms.
According to the report, there are 168 NYSE member firms, down from more than 200 in 2007, before the global financial crisis. Among the firms at the NYSE are Bank of America Securities, Inc., Goldman Sachs & Co., Morgan Stanley, and J.P. Morgan.
