Friday the Norwegian committee gives the Peace Prize to Navi Pillay for her work on war crimes and crimes against humanity. She chaired the UN commission that last year found Israel committed genocide in Gaza. Trump is at a Syracuse rally hours later. He says he never heard of her, calls the decision disgraceful and embarrassing, and says it left an indelible stain on Norway. He repeats that the prize should have gone to the United States and him. Pillay, at an event in Nuremberg, jokes to the crowd: if you clap a little more, I may share this prize with Trump. Israeli officials call the award a weaponization of the prize against Israel. The award itself is already background. The reaction is the part that stuck.
