Hackers turn French supermarket freezers into ovens. €270,000 in food lost in two stores.

Attack hit overnight Sunday into Monday. Hackers took control of refrigeration software on older Danfoss units and forced continuous defrost cycles. Some freezers and fridges heated to 50°C (122°F). Managers walked into stores Monday morning to waves of hot air. Some small fires reported. Intermarché and Netto: at least 300 stores. Coopérative U: more than 100. Other chains including Carrefour and Monoprix also reported hits. Total affected stores around 500 out of roughly 15,000 in France. BFMTV: two stores in Alsace (Intermarché and Super U or Leclerc) lost €270,000 between them. Nationwide losses expected in the millions. Fresh and frozen stock thrown out. Paris prosecutors opened a cyber-crime investigation. Called it a large-scale attack on refrigerators of several major food retail chains.
