UK PM Burnham: Iran’s IRGC almost certainly directed plot against RAF Fairford

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham told Parliament on Monday that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard was almost certainly behind the suspected plot against RAF Fairford. He said the assessment is that the plot was highly likely coordinated in Iran and directed by the IRGC. This is the first time the UK government has officially blamed Iran for it.RAF Fairford in southwest England is the base the U.S. used to station B-1 bombers for strikes on Iran. About ten days ago the U.S. pulled a dozen of those bombers out after intelligence pointed to a possible Iranian drone attack on the base. British security forces arrested several men nearby on 27 September on terrorism and explosives charges. Most of them were later released on bail without being charged. The Iranian ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Office. Tehran has rejected the allegations as unfounded.
