Wall St. Journal Reports Huge Gasoline Lines in Indonesia

Motorists in Bali and other provinces have faced lines stretching more than a kilometer, with some waits lasting hours. Reports began around October 12. Officials attribute the disruption to a delayed tanker unloading, distribution bottlenecks, and a shift by drivers from higher-priced non-subsidized fuel to cheaper subsidized Pertalite after earlier price increases on non-subsidized grades. Panic buying has added to the pressure. National stocks are reported at 16–20 days of supply. Pertamina has scheduled additional deliveries of 57.9 million liters to Bali between October 14 and 17 and extended station hours.
