Omaha gas stations run out of fuel today

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen issued an executive order relaxing state transportation regulations to combat regional fuel shortages that left gas stations in Omaha, Papillion, and La Vista completely dry. The emergency directive extends federal driver hours-of-service waivers and allows fuel delivery trucks to exceed gross weight limits by 10% through November 18 to keep gasoline and diesel moving to empty retail pumps.

The regional fuel squeeze stems from peak autumn harvest diesel demand coinciding with seasonal refinery maintenance and the annual transition to winter-blend fuel. On October 5, President Donald Trump signed a federal order waiving off-road restrictions and tax penalties on red-dyed agricultural diesel to ease distribution bottlenecks across the Midwest.
