In a Fox News interview today Zelensky answered “yes” when asked if he would accept a peace deal that freezes fighting along the present lines so Ukraine keeps 75 percent or more of the country. He called it a “real way to end this war,” described it as a ceasefire or “freeze and stop,” and said Ukraine would then seek security guarantees from the United States and European partners. He did not say he would formally cede or recognize occupied land as Russian. Russia currently controls roughly 19–20 percent of Ukraine, including Crimea and large parts of the east and south. In prior years Zelensky rejected formal recognition of Russian gains and full withdrawal from remaining Ukrainian-held areas of Donbas that Moscow demands. The comments come amid U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff’s meetings with European leaders and Russian officials.
