ICE posts hilarious response to bogus story by 60 Minutes.

60 Minutes aired a Sunday segment on Moussa Diawara, a 57-year-old Malian who overstayed a tourist visa and lived in the Houston area for about 25 years. He married a U.S. citizen, has two American children, and drove for Uber with no criminal record. A 2012 immigration judge granted him withholding of removal from Mali, meaning he could be deported elsewhere but not to his home country, where he said he feared persecution after converting to Christianity. ICE arrested him in July, flew him to Ghana, and Ghanaian officials then sent him to Mali within days. Diawara told the program he could not reach a lawyer or judge and believes U.S. officials knew the third-country stop would not stick. His lawyer has asked a federal judge to order his return.

Hours later the official ICE account on X posted “Fake & Gay!” above his name. The agency said his asylum application claimed he was a homosexual man who feared persecution in Mali for that reason, and that he now faces fraud allegations. DHS general counsel James Percival, who appeared in the segment, wrote that he pulled the file and the stated fear was based on being gay. 60 Minutes focused on the Christian conversion claim and the family separation. Critics of the ICE post called it juvenile and potentially dangerous; supporters said it exposed routine asylum fraud that the broadcast omitted. The case illustrates the tension over third-country removals when a judge has barred return to the home country.
