Trump’s former lawyer landed a $40 million legal deal while advising the Justice Department. Then her client’s family got a presidential pardon. What did Trump know?

Alina Habba took a contract for more than $50 million, $10 million a year for four years plus bonuses, as general counsel at Concord Partners. Company was set up by the daughter of Venezuelan banker Julio Herrera Velutini. Habba was still a DOJ adviser after she left the acting U.S. attorney job in New Jersey. She started in January. Trump pardoned Herrera on January 15 for the misdemeanor campaign finance charge he took after the earlier bribery case. Amended order came five days later. Daughter had already put $3.5 million into a Trump super PAC. Times reported the deal October 21. Trump found out the size last week and blew up. Told people she should give part of it to his library or some other Trump thing. Habba and White House say she had nothing to do with the pardon.
