Buy a stock you believe in. Set two price alerts. One at the level that would make you admit something has gone seriously wrong. The other at the price where you’d happily take your profits and walk away. Then close the app.
There is something almost ridiculous about checking a stock 20 times a day when you have no intention of buying more or selling. You watch it go up $2, feel like a genius, watch it fall $3, and suddenly question every decision you’ve ever made. By the end of the day, the company hasn’t changed much, but your mood has been through a complete financial crisis.
Here’s a trick: treat your portfolio like a slow cooker, not a microwave. You don’t keep opening the lid every five minutes to see whether dinner is ready. You give it time to do its job.
Of course, this only works if you actually believe in what you bought. The alerts are your guardrails, not an excuse to forget the company exists. Check the business when earnings come out, keep an eye on the original reasons you bought it, and let the daily price swings happen without making them your personal problem.
The stock market will still be open tomorrow. Your portfolio doesn’t need your attention every five minutes. And if the dream notification finally goes off, that’s a pretty good way to wake up.
