Iranian state television has broadcast an 8-minute guide showing citizens what to do if a nuclear bomb hits. The instructions tell people to get into basements or rooms deep inside concrete buildings, stay away from windows, shut off air conditioners and ventilation systems drawing in outside air, and remain sheltered for at least 24 hours. Anyone caught outside is told not to look at the flash, get behind solid cover, lie flat and protect their head before moving into the nearest sturdy building. The guide also explains how to remove contaminated clothing, wash radioactive dust off the skin, and avoid contaminated food and water. It warns people not to take iodine tablets without medical advice. The video was published by Iran’s state news agency IRNA on October 29, during its annual Passive Defence Week, but is drawing attention now amid renewed talk of a possible US strike on Iran’s underground nuclear facilities. Trump said on October 16 that the US could target Pickaxe Mountain near Natanz, while ruling out the use of nuclear weapons. Tehran is now publicly showing its population how to prepare for one.
