France erupts in nationwide protests as workers, students and Yellow Vests take to the streets against Macron

France is facing another nationwide revolt, and this time workers, students and the Yellow Vests are joining forces. Around 260 demonstrations were planned today, with unions demanding higher wages, better pensions, more money for public services and relief from rising living costs. Teachers, railway workers, refinery employees and students are taking part. The protests started in September over overcrowded schools and teacher shortages, then spread after weeks of anger over government spending cuts and the cost of living. On October 17, demonstrations turned violent, with looting and clashes with police. Now Macron’s government has deployed 70,000 police officers to deal with today’s protests. France is also fighting over its next budget, with lawmakers rejecting the first part of the 2027 budget bill just yesterday.
