Conservative MP Sir Desmond Swayne has said he is “appalled” by the impact of coronavirus laws on the right to legally protest in the UK.
Speaking with talkRADIO’s Julia Hartley-Brewer, the lockdown sceptic said: “Even if you could show me that we are saving lives…I take the view that liberty is more important and that these liberties were bought themselves at a cost of lives and should not be so lightly given away.”
It comes after more than 150 arrests were made during an anti-lockdown protest in London’s West End over the weekend.
Police were booed and faced chants of “shame on you” as protesters, many not wearing face masks, refused to leave.
