Akron cancelled its 4th of July festivities not because it fears blacks or because they’re preparing to protect the city – no, no, it’s because, in the words of Mayor Horrigan, “I feel strongly that this is not the time for a city-led celebration.”

As the article notes, this was also set to be a major event for Akron small businesses and restaurants who had no doubt purchased food and other items in advance that will now go to waste, especially as food and fuel prices have skyrocketed.
