Over 5 crore people have been fully vaccinated in India, while over 21 crores have received the first dose of the vaccine. N K Arora, chairperson of NTAGI quoted a PGI Chandigarh study in this context. Arora reportedly said that the PGI Chandigarh study shows vaccine effectiveness is 75% irrespective of one dose or both doses. According to Public Health England (PHE), four weeks after the first dose, the AstraZeneca vaccine offered 50% protection against the Alpha variant. However, for the Delta variant, this protection with a single dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine was about 30%.
