Prosecutors in Florida have told jurors a former congresswoman financed a lavish lifestyle of Beverly Hills shopping trips and fancy parties on donations to a charity ostensibly set up to help poor children with scholarships.
Testimony will continue for a second day Thursday in the trial of former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, 70. She has pleaded not guilty to multiple fraud and conspiracy charges. Prosecutors have laid out an expansive case in U.S. District Court, charting years of payments they say were funneled from the charity to her personal bank accounts.
“She knew exactly how to lie to these donors, and knew exactly where the cash money was going,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Tysen Duva in his opening statement Wednesday.
Lawyers presented two opposing portraits of Brown to the federal jury in Jacksonville, part of a district the former Democratic congresswoman had represented since 1993. One was of an entitled, corrupt politician and the other that of a befuddled, aging lawmaker whose trusted adviser betrayed her. Her attorney James Smith said she was duped by her former chief of staff, Elias “Ronnie” Simmons.
Federal prosecutors said Brown and her associates used a charity called One Door for Education to bring in more than $800,000 between 2012 and 2016, much of which they used for lavish trips, tickets to a Beyoncé concert, shopping excursions in Beverly Hills and other personal expenses.
Brown’s indictment says the Virginia-based One Door only gave out one scholarship for $1,200 to an unidentified person in Florida.
Meanwhile, prosecutors said, Brown and two of her closest associates — Simmons and former One Door President Carla Wiley — were transferring donations to their personal accounts. Simmons and Wiley already have pleaded guilty and are expected to testify against Brown.

Brown is a Clinton Superdelegate and she faces hard jail time for ripping-off school kids and college fees.

Criminals in America run free only because they once played an important role in the world of politics, and by “criminals” we mean Obama, Hillary, and many of their fellow Democrats. Most Americans agree that the former president should be put behind bars for the damage he caused to his country. But, the good news is that his closest allies are going to jail, one at a time.
Congresswoman Corrine Brown may get 357 years in prison and $48 million in fines for her “sticky hands.” Brown stole scholarship money, and that’s the worst harm one can do to children. The Congresswoman funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars from One Door for Education straight into her criminal pocket.

  1. Another black that really cares about other blacks that are living in poverty, going hungry and have no jobs. She’s enjoying the good life for them.

  2. These psychopaths love to live off charities, stealing from the poor gives them a special high. The Clinton’s ripped off the poor Haitians and most charities are ripoffs run to profit the managers.

    • I think the Clintons wrote that off as part of Chelsea’s learning of Home Economics. They were teaching her how to cook the books. In fact I think Chelsea has a new book coming out soon. It is to be titled- “Home Cookin’ with Mom and Dad”

  3. If Brown gets that much time in prison…..then Hill should get a few million YEARS….and her ugly fatazz daughter should get a few million years as well. Time to really go after the whole gang of money takers and give them what they really need…..lots of time to think over their crimes!!! this is hopefully a good start.

  4. Hey! It’s only money! It just turned out it was not Corrine’s. Probably just a slight oversight on someones cheat sheet. It is not only Corrine doing this. These homeless shelters take in men and women everyday. For each day they are fed and housed the US government pays them about $49. a head. Much of the food prepared is from donations of old bread, dented canned goods,etc.. Breakfast consists of a bowl of cereal and a glass of juice. Lunch is usually not served. Dinner will be some canned food, spaghetti without meat sauce or very little. Who is making the big bucks? The director, his wife, his son and daughter. Oh yeah. They make them into family businesses. Then on their weekly visits to the meat stores to purchase steaks, burgers, roasts, etc. those tickets are turned in for expenses. Mostly used in their own B-B-Qs or for entertaining guests. Some of these places take you immediately to sign up for food stamp cards. The have full possession and the resident never sees what is spent. Many food stamp cards are used to purchase items and then sold to others at reduced costs. Some restaurants buy all their meat from persons reselling items purchased with government food stamps. The director may not drive his or her new Mercedes to work but most have one and it’s paid for. Big fancy homes and lots of money. Then one gets caught like this old gal and they make a big deal of it. She may do five years if that. The judge wants his take too! Slap her on the hand and be done with it.
