The exports thing isn’t even true.Â
The deal is that 50% of Burkina Faso’s foreign exchange reserves (foreignpolicy.com/2021/08/03/macron-france-cfa-franc-eco-west-central-africa-colonialism-monetary-policy-bitcoin/) are kept in the French treasury to accrue interest, as with other countries that use CFA francs.
Why should France give Africa free money anyway?Â
