Thousands of South African union members demonstrated in Pretoria and Cape Town on Wednesday against high unemployment, poor wages, taxes, and inflation despite government warnings that public employees would lose their pay.

Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quoa is the former African Union Ambassador to the United States. Her career as a pan-Africanist has taken her throughout the continent and the world.
