20 years ago a Chinese jet crashed into a US “spy plane,” over the South China Sea, the so-called Hainan Island Incident. It was a diplomatic disaster for President George W. Bush and a propaganda victory for the Chinese Communist Party. And now, the Communist Party of China is using the memory of the Hainan Island Incident and the death of the Chinese pilot Wang Wei to do more propaganda following the US China meeting. Joe Biden China relations will be very different than the Bush era.
