24/7 Wall St. reports, Oct. 23, 2019, that FBI data show that in 2018, the United States had nearly the lowest violent crime rate in more than three decades, as far back as many Americans can remember, of 369 violent crimes reported for every 100,000 Americans.

John Roman, a senior fellow with social research institution NORC at the University of Chicago, said: “If you are under the age of 40, you’ve never been safer than you are today.”
The cities with the lowest violent crime rates tend to share several other socioeconomic characteristics as well, notably, economic prosperity — another Trump effect. Roman said: “The more affluent a place is, the less crime there is on average.” Indeed, the vast majority of America’s safest cities — those with violent crime rates less than half the current national rate — have a low unemployment rate and a high median household income. Some of the safest cities are among the wealthiest places in the country.
Roman said successful cities also market their assets and build around their assets. Many of the safest cities have capitalized on existing features, such as marketing a natural waterway or vista as a tourist destination, or developing industries built around a local university.
