The UK Hates Russia, That Is Except For Their Natural Gas!

Poor UK, blaming Russia for just about everything. They even blame Russia for cyber warfare against fracking. It’s quite a joke that the UK depends on Russian gas because they forbid fracking in most places. Time for the UK to frack like hell, or shut up about Russia or Putin will just say like the Seinfeld soup Nazi: NO MORE GAS FOR YOU!

The UK doesn’t buy any natural gas from Russia. The UK has its own North Sea reserves, It buys a big chunk from Norway and the balance is imported from Qatar as LNG. It has interconnectors to Belgium and Holland but with cheap LNG on the world market they have been mostly re-exporting Qatari gas through those interconnectors.

Actually the UK buys 44% of it’s gas from a pipeline from Europe, of which a third is Russian gas:

By far the bigger story is the decline in the North Sea oil and gas production, which has taken up back to a level of energy-dependence last seen in the mid-1970s.

As recently as 1999, the UK was producing 20 percent more energy than it consumed. But last year we enjoyed energy self-dependence was in 2003. By 2015, a net 38 percent of the energy consumed here was imported.

As for gas, which accounts for just under 40 percent of total energy consumed in Britain, 43 percent currently comes from UK production, 44 percent comes from European pipelines (of which a third is ultimately supplied by Russia).

The remaining 13 percent is imported in the form of liquified natural gas (LNG) – either from Qatar, the US or, since this year, the Yamal LNG project in Russia’s Arctic.
