Donald Trump and the mainstream media are at war and have been since the start of his presidential campaign two Junes ago. Whatever shred of objectivity the media maintained in its reporting is long gone. The Left long ago infiltrated our major media companies and that is why today Americans’ trust in mass media is at all-time lows.
With the Donald in the driver’s seat, the media still does not know how to deal with this new, unprecedented reality.
Last Saturday, the White House Correspondents Association dinner was without the presence of the president at last. In snubbing the liberal reporters who cover him, Trump revealed how out of touch our mainstream media elite is with the rest of Middle America. Even Press Secretary Sean Spicer didn’t feel the need to show up.
C-SPAN did not bother covering the coveted event, instead electing to show Trump’s raucous rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a throwback to the enthusiasm surrounding his campaign that is still very much intact today after his first 100 days in office.
“A large group of Hollywood actors and Washington media are consoling each other in a hotel ballroom,” Trump began in his speech to thousands of Pennsylvanians, “I could not possibly be more thrilled than to be more than 100 miles away from Washington’s swamp … with a much, much larger crowd and much better people.”
Back at the DC Hilton, the press continued to prove how impartial they are. In a scripted remark, White House Correspondents Association President Jeff Mason said, “We are not fake news. We are not failing news organizations. We are not the enemy of the American people.” And yet, Americans continue to tune them out and look to other sources for their news. The people are sick and tired of the media spinning any story in an attempt to show Trump in a negative light. We are over it. Cover the facts and let the people decide for themselves.
But they have still not learned their lesson…
Conservative commentator and former adviser to multiple Republican presidents, Pat Buchanan, wrote recently: “Whatever happens to Trump, the respect and regard the mainstream media once enjoyed are gone. Public opinion of the national press puts them down beside the politicians they cover — and for good reason.”
The media and ruling political class in Washington have become one and the same. Each channel has its own ideology and agenda. Every news article masquerades as an opinion piece to feed a narrative detached from reality. This has led to the rise of alternative news sites following the many accusations of fake news throughout the presidential campaign.
Trump is under attack by the media as no other president has before. The mainstream media despises him and would love to see him ousted from office, as they assisted in helping boot Nixon.
The war on the media could result in a resounding victory for Mr. Trump. But it could very well end up in Trump’s departure from Pennsylvania Avenue. However this pans out, it will be an ugly road to get to the conclusion of this simmering conflict, which will likely not end entirely until Trump is no longer in the White House.
Donald is upending the status quo and putting the media in its place… at the bottom rung of relevancy.
