53 years in the woods: Interview of an Appalachian Man

Rice is an Appalachian man who spent his whole life working as a timber cutter. He never traveled far from home. He speaks about his life with deep honesty and grace.

I am considering a move to a rural area so for me this is a much needed reminder of how country life, simplicity and poverty can enrich the soul.

Memorable quotes:

“Being intelligent is one thing. Being schooled is another.”

“What you consider horrible for me may be just day-to-day.”
