Owner William “Bill” Hays said the closure is due to lack of customers.
Local reports first claimed he was retiring and moving, but Hays and an employee rejected that.
An employee told reporters foot traffic has dried up.
The store once saw spikes after big news events, but now sits nearly empty.
Hays runs another merchandise shop in Gatlinburg and plans other ventures.
