Subject: ID.me is Coming September 13 – Your New Way to Log in to TreasuryDirect
Dear TreasuryDirect Customer,
On Sunday, September 13, 2026, we’re introducing a new login experience for TreasuryDirect through ID.me. ID.me is a standard, secure government-trusted identity verification provider. Logging in with the ID.me verification process adds a layer of assurance for your sensitive personal and financial information as you conduct digital transactions with TreasuryDirect. ID.me is already used by other federal agencies, which enables you to safely access multiple government services without needing separate accounts.
What to Expect
When ID.me is live on September 13, 2026, you’ll be prompted to create or log in to your ID.me “Wallet” the next time you log in to TreasuryDirect.gov. You can still use your traditional TreasuryDirect login until October 28, 2026. At that time, ID.me will replace your traditional TreasuryDirect login. If you don’t set up ID.me, your account, funds, and investments will remain safe, and you can easily restore online access at any time after October 28, 2026, by completing the ID.me setup process and linking your TreasuryDirect account(s).
Customers new to ID.me: To create an ID.me digital Wallet, navigate to TreasuryDirect and click the button that says, “Secure Sign In.” You’ll need two government-issued forms of identity ready. This can be your SSN and a valid government-issued photo ID, such as driver’s license, state ID, passport or passport card. You may also be asked for further photo verification using your cell phone’s camera. If you do not have access to a smart phone with a camera, you can visit the ID.me Help Center for support with verifying your identity. Your wallet securely stores your verified identity information and will make logging in quicker going forward.
Customers that have ID.me: Please note that if you already have an ID.me Wallet, you might be asked to complete an additional identity verification to meet the security requirements specific to TreasuryDirect before you can use ID.me to log in. These requirements will depend on your security level. ID.me will prompt you if this is the case and walk you through the process.
