The House told states to think about making data centers pay.

The House voted 417-3 to stop households from eating the power bill for giant data centers.

The Ratepayer Protection Act tells states to consider making those 100-megawatt server farms pay the full extra cost of new plants and lines.

AI buildings have been showing up next to suburbs and dragging rates with them, so both parties piled on. It still has to clear the Senate, and states can refuse the standard.

That lopsided vote is the tell. People are done subsidizing someone else’s computer warehouse. Congress found the easy version of that fight and ran it through.
