And these Republican polling struggles are showing up even in Texas, which has been dominated by the GOP since the 1990s.
The scandal-plagued Paxton defeated incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) in the primary with Trump’s endorsement, but it required a runoff, burned through campaign funds, and put a spotlight on the series of scandals, lawsuits, a bitter divorce from his state senator wife, and other controversies that have dogged the AG for years. For months, Paxton has lagged badly behind Talarico in fundraising and several points behind in the polls.
Cook shifts Kansas, S Carolina Senate races…
The nonpartisan election handicapper Cook Political Report on Wednesday shifted the Senate races in Kansas and South Carolina toward Democrats, with just more than a month before the November midterm elections.
Kansas shifted from “likely Republican” to “lean Republican” for Sen. Roger Marshall’s (R-Kan.) race to keep his seat against Democratic Senate candidate Adam Hamilton. South Carolina moved from “solid Republican” to “likely Republican” in the race between Sen. Darline Graham (R-S.C.) and Democrat Annie Andrews.
Cook Political Report described how agriculture is the driving force in the Kansas Senate race, specifically as it pertains to high fuel and fertilizer prices, as well as trade on beef. These increased costs have made the race more competitive.
