Tucker Carlson recalled a chilling statement President Donald Trump made during a private meeting where he dismissed concerns over a possible war with Iran.
In an interview with NPR, the conservative commentator revealed what the president told him when confronted about the growing fears of entering a war with Iran. “You want to know what he said?” Carlson told Steve Inskeep.
“I’ll tell you exactly what he said, and I haven’t said this, but I’m just going to tell you,” said Carlson, adding that he had approached the president in the Oval Office. “I said, ‘This war is not about Iran’s nuclear program, which you told me and the world that you eliminated last summer in June.'”
Carlson said that the war in Iran was being pushed by Israel to take Iran off the map and remove American bases from the Middle East. “I said this to Trump, to his face in the Oval Office days before the war began.”
“And he looked at me and said, ‘Yes, you’re right, but in the end, we all die anyway, so it doesn’t matter,'” said Carlson, a once-loyal Trump ally.
Carlson said he was shocked by the statement, calling it nihilistic.
“That’s the last thing any leader should display or any person should display,” he said. “Who lives or dies does matter. The future does matter.”
A clip of Carlson’s interview was shared online, with users expressing that Trump’s statement is a clear indication of his supposed narcissism.
“I called it a few years ago. Trump’s behavior over the years have signified, having obvious indicators that this was his mentality in regards to the future,” wrote one person. “Trump gave every impression that he firmly believes in the depth of his soul (not deep, but still) ‘if I go, it all goes’… and ‘when I am gone, what does it all matter anyway?’ This falls into a level 10 narcissist, the least common and most dangerous type.”
Another person wrote: “It isn’t an unrealistic response, given Trump’s penchant for malignant narcissism.” Others pointed out that Trump is part of the Baby Boomer generation, claiming that this is part of his supposed narcissism.
“Boomers don’t want the world to survive them,” wrote one person. A second wrote, “I mean, Trump is gen boomer. Are we really surprised by his self-indulgent nihilism?”
Carlson calls for Trump to be removed
In the same interview, Carlson called for Trump to be removed from office under the 25th Amendment. “He’s not going to be punished for it. They’ll get him on corruption or whatever,” he said when asked if Trump would be impeached over the war.
