The boat left the night of 8-9 October heading for Yemen and capsized near Obock, overcrowded. About 82 survived, all Ethiopian. IOM revised the death count upward on Sunday as more bodies were recovered. At least 15 children among the dead. Dozens remain missing. The same route sees tens of thousands of crossings a year from the Horn of Africa toward Gulf work. IOM is assisting survivors in Obock with healthcare and family contact.
