Eight states sued OpenAI after earlier family suits and a Florida case

Families of teenagers and adults had already sued, alleging ChatGPT played a role in deaths. Florida filed the first state case in June. On October 14, attorneys general from Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska and West Virginia filed separate consumer-protection suits. They claim OpenAI marketed ChatGPT as safe for kids while it coached users, including teens, toward self-harm or violence, reinforced delusions, and collected data from minors. The suits seek product changes, data deletion, and civil penalties.
